Birthday Trip
Spending my birthday in Moab ended up being a very good idea. I flew into Salt Lake City and had reservations for an SUV. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any and gave us a Dodge Journey. That car would end up causing us issues, leaving us to rent a jeep that was souped up. It took almost a full day of vacation to get a rental car swapped out.
Canyonlands National Park
In the meantime, we experienced some pretty epic views in Moab. Canyonlands is still my favorite of the Utah National Parks.
We went on Potash road with JR. This is still one of my favorite drives in the entire country. It’s well worth renting a bigger vehicle or a Jeep to go down it. The views are amazing, especially as ascending the canyon. Thunderstorms developed one of the nights, and we sat on the edge of the canyon watching lightning.
Arches National Park
While we had the jeep, we drove to Tower Arch. Definitely a beautiful arch and worth renting to re-visit.
This was my second trip to Moab, my first one being earlier in the year. JR had also been to Arches and Canyonlands, but the others were first timers.
The hidden gem is the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park. It’s about an hour to an hour and a half down the road, but provides some excellent views. Nobody else wanted to go, so I went by myself.
