Chase Recap:
Forecast
Heidi and I were busy working on her move. The target I was eyeing in the days leading up was Winner, SD. The NAM showed crazy parameters there, and a possibly break-able cap depending on which model run you looked at. I finally got my stuff lost on Wednesday from Southwest on Friday. Worst airline ever.
Day Of
After running errands all morning including trying to get a rental car, I finally got a brand new truck with 500 miles on it. It also previously had hail damage, so I didn’t have to worry about that so much. I missed the small print of a 250 mile limit then $0.20 a mile after, but what’s a few extra bucks… ouch
We headed out of Sioux Falls late, arriving in Murdo around dinner time. We talked to Mike Marz for a bit before heading south towards storms that had fired in Nebraska.
Cap Wins
Visible satellite showed some intense supercells erupting north of Thedford radar in Nebraska. I decided our best play would be to catch those. I even thought “OK Game on” before I watched them slowly fizzle away on radar and then visible satellite.
At this point we were in Winner, so we stopped and got some Subway. Nothing much going on anywhere, so we headed back towards Sioux Falls along Highway 44.
This part of South Dakota is so beautiful.
