Chase Recap:

Linear Event?

The day screamed linear event, but was also likely the last chance of the season. I decided to target around Wichita Falls, but was distracted early by a storm in southern McClain/Grady County near Purcell. I headed southbound OK-74. As I approached the storm, I could observe a decent updraft. Within minutes it would turn into an ugly whales mouth.

Dropping south, I ended up near Elmore City and saw a decent shelf cloud before deciding to bail towards the storms going up near Wichita Falls. Unfortunately, it was pretty much an instant line. Updrafts filled in the holes within 20 minutes. I was unable to get on anything before it became outflow dominant.

Lightning Photography

I ended up south of Archer City and decided to try my hand at my lightning trigger taking lightning shots. Some amazing CG, but the 9v batteries in my trigger weren’t strong enough to trigger my shutter so I missed them all. I dropped south to Olney and got another 9v battery. Managed a few shots after that before ending up in Jacksboro at Allsups for dinner.

Mammatus near Burkburnett

As I was heading home, I got a nice display of mammatus near Burkburnett. And just like that, the southern plains season was pretty much over for Spring 2019.
