West Texas Storms

Chase Recap:

A Friday chase seemed in the cards after a couple weeks of downtime. The target didn’t seem far, perhaps Childress or just west of there. At least, that’s what I thought.

I worked a half day at work then decided to bail and head south and west. The original idea was to head west out of Lawton and catch up to storms ongoing in the TX PH. Somehow that seemed to fail, and I found myself heading further south to go further west than I had planned by 150 miles. The dryline stayed farther west, which seems weird to write after the past few years of drought, and I found myself sitting in Seymour, TX with storms almost in New Mexico.

I highly considered bailing back home at that point, but it was a Friday night and I didn’t have to work the next day so what the heck? I headed west to see what I could see.

And that wasn’t a whole lot, although I did end up on a good storm south of Brownfield near Loop, TX that produced a nice wall cloud and I really thought might actually produce more than the dusty land spout-ey things it was producing. This ended up not being the case, though, and the storm fell apart. It produced some decent photo opportunities, but I found myself facing a long drive home with not a lot to show for it. Typical.

I ended up getting some decent lightning on the way home and had to stop in Wichita Falls for a nap with the most absolute awesome light show going on outside.
