Chase Recap:
Definitely was watching the 25th for a few days out. An early season setup close to home. The target I kept eyeing in the days leading up was the dryline. The NAM was showing a pretty stout dryline and a relatively decent environment. What wasn’t to like in late March? High CAPE, low to mid 60 degree dewpoints and steep lapse rates.
Departure
I left Norman around 2:30 and headed southwest to Chickasha before screwing around trying to find air for a low tire. Ended up heading further south on I-44 towards Lawton. Got pulled over by OHP, but he was more interested if he was going to get hail at the house than me going ~5 over.
I ended up in Lawton and noticed storms trying to go up around Wichita falls, so I headed towards Duncan. That would put me in a position to intercept if they got organized. They tried multiple times, and there was even a brief storm that popped near Duncan, but nothing was ever able to get organized.
As I sat south of Ratliff City the news of the Tulsa tornadoes started pouring in. A bit annoyed, I headed east to I-35 then north to head back to Norman. I stopped in Pauls Valley to fill up and buy food. News of the Moore tornado started coming in there. Really annoyed now, I headed northwest and setup for some pictures of the shelf cloud.
I finished the day off heading south to the Arbuckles near Turner Falls on the I-35 scenic overlook turnout and took some long exposures, capturing a few lightning strikes.
