Supercell near Dublin, TX

Chase Recap:

I had somewhat high hopes for this day despite the crashing cold front. The plan was easy – stay along the dryline well ahead of the cold front and see what we can see.

Hitting the road

David, Lindsey and I left Norman and decided to head south on I-35. We stopped in Ardmore to fill up. At that point we observed some bubbling CU activity to our west, but we wanted to continue south to stay away from the cold front.

As we approached Ardmore, we headed west on US-70 and dropped south on 81. There was some storms firing in Texas, the first of which we got on near Possum Kingdom Lake. We witnessed a nice elevated funnel and a horseshoe vorticy. The storm was struggling, so we didn’t want to stick with that storm very long. We headed south towards the storm to the west of Stephenville.

We headed to Stephenville then southwest to Dublin, TX where we witnessed a beautiful storm. The storm contained a real nice wall cloud, and cycled twice, producing a nicer wall cloud each cycle. We had to bail a bit southeast to stay out of the storm. As it turns out, the storm would vanish on us.

We headed back to Norman after that.
