At 5pm I found myself at work. There
Not an overly exciting chase, but a decent one nonetheless. I was at work until 5 pm in Norman, so I immediately took off and headed east on Highway 9. My original plan was to intercept the storms going up over Norman, and then drop south as things fired. Great idea, but failure in the execution.
I got interested in the cell along I-44 near Stroud and started heading up that way. The storm behind it was forming a nice wall cloud, but not much if any rotation. The storm near Stroud went tornado warned, and then Mike Scantlin reported tornadoes. Unfortunately I was about 20 miles behind, and still tried to keep up with the storm I was on.
It went outflow dominant somewhere near Okemah, OK and produced a pretty nice shelf cloud. Tulsa kept issuing tornado warnings on it, which kept baiting me further east. At one point the media reported a tornado, but it appears they just saw the downdraft area on the northeast side of the storm.
I ended up following the storm east to Eufala, where I thought they would finally stop issuing tornado warnings on it. They didn’t, and I gave up and took SH-9 back home.
