Chase Recap:

After a bust on the 6th in Nebraska City, we went and got some great BBQ, and then returned back to Scott’s house in Omaha. Sunday the 7th was looking like a great day for us to hit the road yet again. Scott and I drove separately because we knew we would be chasing things eastwardly, and it made no sense for me to go back to Omaha on my way home to Michigan.

Departing Omaha

I departed Omaha for a Lincoln lunch stop. We’d hit up the Raisin Canes, and then head south out of Lincoln towards Marysville Kansas. From there we took a jog east to meet up with Brandon to drop off his keys.

Convective Initiation

The first storm I would chase started firing near Marysville. In order to get a look at the storm, I’d have to head north towards Pawnee City. I’d get a decent look at the storm there, and noted decent rotation. I continued east towards Humboldt.

I observed another wall cloud while heading north on NE-105 into Humboldt. I headed east to 75 and then north, taking a trip into the core. Hail was falling, but I had nothing bigger than an inch or so in diameter.

Crossing the River

I’d need to find a river crossing, and Brownville would be the one. There was a gas station just before getting on I-29. I’d fill my tank and head southbound on I-29. More storms had exploded to my south, with the strongest one near Oregon Missouri.

Oregon Missouri Supercell

As I headed southbound on I-29, I’d observe a stout updraft shaped somewhat like a wedding cake or a nuclear explosion.

I exited 29 near St. Joseph and headed east to US169. I ran into Scott again. We headed north on 169 towards Union Star, Missouri. Scott broke off again at highway 31, dropping south. I continued east and encountered half dollar to golfball sized hail and a green sky.

Missouri Hailstorm

I continued east, then south eventually arriving in Weatherby. The storm had taken a more outflow/shelfy look at this point. I was able to get a few structure photos along highway 6 before continuing east to I-35.

Dinner

Steve and Hans stopped by and we all decided to meet up at Pizza Hut in Cameron for dinner. Scott and Lanny joined us and Steve and Scott took a picture of Server31 for ChaserTV together before I took it for transport to the datacenter in Michigan.

I spent the night in Methany.. ahem.. Bethany before heading back to Michigan in the morning.
